In 1994, the nations of the world gathered in Cairo for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and hammered out the comprehensive Programme of Action to improve women’s sexual and reproductive health. Just six years later, the nations of the world agreed on eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and reproductive health was excluded. This exclusion is emblematic of the declining priority placed on reproductive health and is a needed wake-up call.
