In this revision of the World Population Prospects, the latest global demographic estimates and projections are presented. The data was prepared by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat. With this revision, the Poulation Division issues the twenty third round of global population estimates and projections since 1951. The 2012 revision is based on previous revisions and incorporates the results of the 2010 national population census along with findings of recent specialised demographic surveys conducted in various locations globally. The comprehensive data collection on global demographic trends and future estimates delivers the population basis for monitoring and assessing of the progress of achieving the Milennium Development Goals (MDGs).
